Eagle Eye Productions and University of Montana Set Up
End-to-end HD Suite with Apple Final Cut Pro, HEURIS MPEG Power ProfessionalDTV HD
and Visual Circuits MANTIS Player to Create Stunning Interactive Plasma-based HD
Information Kiosks.
February 11, 2003, St. Louis, MO: Although the kiosks created by Eagle Eye Productions
will look a little like set pieces from a science fiction show, their purpose is to show a
time gone by. The kiosks are being created with the University of Montana as part of a
sweeping Lewis and Clark project aimed at teaching people of all ages about the two great
explorers. These unique kiosks will contain interactive touch screens as well as large
plasma screens displaying beautiful HD footage.
Like Lewis and Clark, the developers at Eagle Eye Productions are charting new
territory. Unlike the famous explorers however, the folks at Eagle Eye Productions have
experienced very smooth sailing. "We put all the pieces together, and it all works
flawlessly," said Eagle Eye Productions Partner Mike Dreesman. "Now that we have
the workflow down, I think youll be seeing lots more HD projects from us."
The "pieces" of the HD development workflow include, an Apple G4 running OS-X
and Final Cut Pro, an AJA Kona Card, HEURIS MPEG Power ProfessionalDTV HD encoding
software and a Visual Circuits Mantis Player. The system, assembled by Dreesman allows
Eagle Eye to go from original digital HD content to playback smoothly and effortlessly
without ever returning to an analog format. The result--a kiosk with all the interactivity
of a typical information kiosk and the all the advantages of gorgeous HD video.
"I am pleased to participate in the development of another outstanding yet
practical commercial application of HD technology," said HEURIS President Brian
Quandt. "Easy to use systems and relatively low prices are allowing more and more
businesses to enter the HD development market. I think its very clearHD
isnt just for broadcast anymore."
"Obviously we are pleased whenever we have great materials to display on our
Mantis Player," said Steve Smith, VP of Sales at Visual Circuits. When you get well
encoded material pumping out at 30 Mb per second on a huge plasma screen, well you have to
think about kiosks in a whole new way."
